why you should consider an adult cat:
It might be their last chance.
Many adult cats end up homeless due to no fault of their own. Separated from the people that they loved, surrounded by strangers, confused, and sometimes frightened, many are emotionally devastated by their misfortune. Sadly for adult cats, most people who adopt, gravitate toward the adorable, bouncy, big-eyed kittens. Older cats sit by and watch, as one loving family after another passes them over for a cute kitten from this season's litter. Kittens will always be popular, and most have no trouble attracting admirers. But for the abandoned, forgotten, and heartbroken adult cats, you just might be their last chance to have the love and warmth of a home with people who will love them again.
Please consider adopting an older cat. When cared for properly, cats can live well into their late teens to early twenties. Typically, they will remain active and playful throughout most of their lives. Some may need a little extra patience while adjusting to a new home, but once they feel safe and secure again, they will give you years of faithful companionship and unconditional love.

Approximate Birth Date: June 2003
|
|
Rocky...he is all boy and ALL PURRS and ALL LOVE! This large cuddle bug was a

With time and patience...and a lot of work...the once "wild" Rocky was cuddling, purring,
jumping into laps, rubbing on legs....and begging to be held. Rocky is one of our most successful feral

Rocky is a special boy....and would love to be the center of someone's world where he can live
happily and safely with his very own family for the rest of his life!

Brown/Gray Tabby; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: January 2004
|
|
Alec is a cute...short legged, long bodied, love bug of a cat. He was rescued from the
woods where he was living with the raccoons, fighting for food. As you can imagine, after growing
up in this way....Alec was pretty scared, shy, and wild when we found him. But after
a year of rehabilitation and a lot of volunteer time and effort....little Alec is now
a happy, friendly and loving boy!!!! Just think....he would probably have suffered a terrible death long ago had someone not seen the potential in this boy.
Alec likes other cats, loves, loves LOVES to be petted
and to be the center of attention (he will even smack you with his paw if he thinks
you ignored him when you walked by.) He is a wonderful guy who is just waiting for
someone to recognize how wonderful he really is. Could you be that person?

HENRY
~ Male
White with Tabby markings on Head and Tail; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: February 2004
|
|
Sweet little Henry. This poor boy was found as a young boy in the woods living
in an abandoned log. He was not doing so well...starving...scared...he hardly
looked like a cat when we rescued him. It took us a long time and a lot of work
to win this sweet boy over. He was so very scared. We cannot even imagine what
he had been through that would have traumatized him so!
Today he is a sweet little boy that prefers a quieter home with adults (the three
year old that he lives with is a bit much for this gentle soul). He LOVES people and
attention and does great with other kitties. He is fine with gentle quiet dogs....and is
just and angel. He will make a very very special friend for someone...because once Henry
loves you....you can't help buy feel special. Henry is a very very sweet boy.

BABY
~ Female
Brown & Gray Tabby; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: April 8, 2004
|
|
I am just a 2 year old kitty, but someone thought that I was disposable and dumped
me outdoors to fend for myself. I don't understand what I did wrong. I was very scared.
I ran through the neighborhood crying out for my owners. Dogs chased me, the cars were the scariest
part…I hadn't been outside before. It was starting to get cold at night. Everyone that
I walked up to gave me a pet on the head…but then went into their homes…leaving me outside.
I was so hungry. Some big kids found me sleeping in the bushes one evening. They were loud
and were laughing at me. One tried to grab me so I ran. I climbed a tree and when they threw rocks
at me, I jumped onto the roof of a house and ran to the window where a cat was sleeping on a
nice warm bed inside. I cried and cried and scratched on the window…begging the people to save me.
A woman opened the window and pulled me inside. It was warm and safe…I purred and rolled over
in her lap. I like to do that….I just love everyone….I am so happy to be alive!
And that is how I ended up here…with PetPromise. Now I am looking for a family and a home to call my own!
I am EXTREMELY friendly, I am a petite girl...and do great with dogs, cats....and even smal children!
Can I be yours? Please?

SHEBA
~ Female
Brown Tabby; Domestic Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: February 21, 2004
|
|
My name is Sheba...and my life began on a golf course. Somehow I found myself as
a kitten abandoned at a country club. Someone dumped me there thinking that I
would find someone to take me home. Unfortunately, the country club had another
idea. They wanted me gone! They called me a nuisance and tried to chase me away. The hit me
and hurt me. I was so scared. One of the employees stopped the people from abusing me further. But even she
couldn't make me hers. I hid in the bushes there terrified of the people that came and went...finding scraps of
food that the nice girl left out for me....but scared for my life.
Fortunately for me, a PetPromise volunteer arrived one day and discovered me.
I meowed at her from under the deck and I cried and cried to get her attention.
She bundled me up and took me away from there, just in time!
I am so thankful to not be hurt and abused anymore. I'm a very sweet and talkative
kitty. I love to give head butts while you are watching tv. Now all I need is my forever home!
I promise to love you forever if you will promise to keep me safe forever.

SYLVESTER ("SLY")
~ Male
Black; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: February, 2006
|
|
On a cold February evening a black kitty was walking down the side of a road near
campus playing in the grasses and looking for scraps of food to eat.
"Sly," as he later came to be known, was hit by a car just minutes later.
The driver that hit him didn't stop…or even slow down as Sly lay writhing in the road.
A young girl witnessed the whole thing. Sly was in severe shock. He had
a shattered jaw and crushed shoulder/leg. Several of his teeth had been knocked
out by the blow and blood was everywhere. Despite all of this, when the girl went to him,
he looked up and purred at her as she carried him to her car.
Sly was neutered, stitched, his jaw was wired so that he can eat (moist food)
on his own, some of his teeth were removed...and his crushed
shoulder and leg were set and a make-shift bandage/cast was made to save the leg that most thought would have to be amputated.
Sly is a fighter and such a sweet boy.....we can't believe that he is alive today.
He is the happiest and sweetest cat in the world despite what happened to him! His leg was miraculously saved,
but he will always carry with him the little telltale limp and the memory of what happened on that cold February day.
If you want to give Sly the home that he deserves after all that he has been through, please complete an
On-Line Adoption Application.

MINI KITTY
~ Male
Gray Tabby; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: January, 2005
|
|
My story starts out sad......
I used to live with someone. I was comfy and warm and loved back then. I thought that I was a good kitty. They said that they loved me.
Then I heard them say we were moving. I was happy...we were going ot a new home. Then, all of a sudden,
I found myself outside a day care, dumped by my family. This wasn't supposed to happen.
I was so scared and. You see, I'm a big kitty with so much love to give. I am a really good cat.
Why would the people that I loved and who loved me throw me away like that?
I lived under the bushes at the day care for months and months.
People would pet me as I rubbed up against their legs crying for food and attention.
Some days they would feed me and some days I would go hungry. The weather got colder and colder
and finally, a kind woman got me to PetPromise.
But I still need a family of my own. I am a big boy! But I am a big teddy bear!
I love everyone and will come and cuddle up next to you on the couch. I like other kitties and probably dogs too.
Can you love me enough to give me a home where I will be safe forever? I promise to love you in return!

OLIVIA
~ Female
Black; Siamese Mix; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: July, 2003
|
|
Olivia or "Via" was a hppy little kitty who was living with an older woman for all of her life.
The woman loved her and took care of her the best that she could....but the woman began to
have some medical issues and began to mistreat poor Via. Nevertheless, this pretty little Siamese Mix (the daughter of a Siamese mother)
still loved the woman and cuddled with her and purred begging the woman to love her. Time went on and things got worse. Sometimes Via didn't have food or water.
Sometimes she was stepped on...sometimes worse. Then one day the woman that Via still loved dearly, took her to the vet's office and left her there. She never came back.
Olivia now is looking for a new home that will love her forever. Via has a
cute-funny face. She is very very affectionate (she misses her old owner so much)
and is very vocal about it (like all Siamese). She is great around children, dogs and other cats and she
thumps her tail when she is happy (we refer to her as Bam-Bam) and she
also gives hugs by climbing on to your lap and putting her paws up around your shoulders.
It is very sweet.
Via will make someone a very very special friend forever....could that someone be you?

DOMINO
~ Male
Black & White; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: June 14, 2007
|
|
Domino....the sweet little guy who almost didn't make it. like his sisters and brother, Domino was found when just hours old
trying to nuzzle with his stray mother as she was doing her best to fight off a neighborhood
dog who was trying to get her newborn kittens. Luckily for Domino (who was left lying alone in the sun while all of this was taking place)
a kind woman ran to their rescue and saved the kittens and their
brave mother from certain death!
Domino was so tiny and left lying there after just being born that he almost didn't survive. He struggled to live (like his brother Salem) and we thought for sure that he would lose the battle. But he fought so hard
that he lived...and has become a tough and sweet and loving little boy kitten.
Domino is a great little guy who likes other kitties (and will follow all of the big cats around trying to be just like them!) He does well with everyone...and is very happy and active now that he is growing strong.
Domino would make a wonderful additon to any family...are you looking for a little boy to love?

SHADOWLYNN
~ Female
Silver Tabby; Short Hair (FeLV+)
Approximate Birth Date: April 11, 2007
|
|
itty Bitty Baby Shadowlynn has the saddest story around. Just a tiny peanut of a newborn kitten, she was dropped by her feral mother
on the grass in front of a woman's home. She layed there crying out for help until her
little lungs were exhausted. It was that final squeal that alerted the homeowner that something was out there in the grass as she got out of her car that
afternoon. After searching for quite a while....there in the shadows of teh grass (shadowlyyn was so very tiny...just the size of a large peanut) was the baby kitten
barely breathing. Shadowlynn was rushed to the vet and heroic efforts were made to save her little life.
The little bitty peanut was a fighter...and although she reamined very very tiny for her age (kittens months younger than her towered over her) she
fought to live. Her little eye was deformed at birth...and even with surgery she remains blind in
that eye....but that still didn't stop this little fighter...she can get around just fine
with sight in one eye!
But then the next blow was struck. Shadowlynn was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia.
Everyone was devastated. This sweet little thing who had been through so much...now this? Certainly while FELV is not a death sentence
for a cat (PetPromise's own Devil kitty lived with FELV for over 11 years!) this meant that little Shadowlynn may have to live her entire life out in foster care.
If only people understood that FELV+ kitties can live long happy lives with the right care...if only people understood that it isn't their fault that
they were born/contracted this kitty disease....if only.... Today, little sweetest kitten in the world, Shadowlynn lives in a foster home in a room
away from other kitties (she can't be exposed to other cats because her immune system could be overcome by even minor
germs other cats could be carrying...and she could also pass the FELV along to one of the
other kitties)...a far cry from where she could have been!

I'm a very sweet, sweet girl who was thrown away like garbage. My family left me to die in
a locked apartment when they abandoned me and their children. They just left us without any
food or water. The apartment managers came and broke down the doors to get us out.
Now I'm in a foster home, but some of the other cats pick on me and make me very scared and
frightened. I stay in a small room so that I can stay safe. But I'm lonely in this room
and I would love to have a home of my own where I can feel safe and not be confined.
I am a very loving girl and love people, kids, and non-aggressive cats.
If you can find a place for me in your heart and home, I promise to give you my
undconditional love! Please complete an
online adoption application today!
