planned giving...

Since 1999 PetPromise has been working toward a better future for homeless pets by providing food, shelter and medical care to hundreds of unwanted dogs and cats in our community. PetPromise relies on donations, bequests, and revenue from fundraising events and adoption fees in order to continue our mission.

Your support of PetPromise with a "planned gift" can help you now, while providing the PetPromise with income in the future to carry on its mission of changing the future for homeless pets. A "planned gift", one which you arrange during your lifetime but which is not received by PetPromise until some future date, offers some specific financial benefits to you, the giver as well as to PetPromise.

Real Estate:
A residence, a vacation home, acreage (even a farm) or an unimproved parcel of land may have appreciated so significantly in value that its sale by you would generate a substantial income tax. By making a gift of a full or partial interest in real estate to PetPromise, you can avoid tax on the long-term capital gain and generate an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property. It is also possible to make a gift of your primary residence or second home while retaining an exclusive life estate so that you (and your spouse) can continue to use it for the rest of your lives while obtaining significant tax and estate planning benefits.

Life Insurance:
A gift of life insurance can provide a significant charitable deduction. To receive a deduction, the policy should be transferred to PetPromise as owner and beneficiary. You will remain the insured. You may make annual gifts to us which we will use to pay policy premiums, and you can deduct these gifts for income tax purposes.

Bequests
One of the simplest methods of providing a planned gift, the bequest is a powerful statement of your support of PetPromise and your concern for the lives of homeless animals. Bequests are instruments of a contributor's will that set aside a sum of money, a portion of the estate, or a portion of the estate's residuary for distribution to a charitable organization to which the testator is committed. The bequest can be small or large. It can be assigned without any qualifications by the contributor, or it can be designated or restricted for use to a specific program.

You can help PetPromise with a lasting contribution by including such a provision in your will or living trust. Your inclusion of PetPromise in your will shows a deep commitment to caring for the future of homeless companion animals whose needs will continue long after we are gone.

Preparing a will is a very private matter. It is also a highly technical document. (We strongly suggest consulting with your attorney prior to including any charitable organization in your will.)
