Hi, my name is Clark and I am a 7 year old, male neutered black Lab mix. Life has not been easy for me I was recently liberated from a really bad situation (which my foster mom can give you all the details but take my word for it, it was NOT a good place). My story invokes enough sympathy on its own as things as simple as getting food and water everyday had not been the norm, but the fact that I am avisual (the polite way to say blind) makes my more story even more amazing.
Being blind isnt such a big deal to me, as I have gradually lost vision due to progressive retinal atrophy and subsequent cataract development (they tell me this is a lab thing and that even with surgery, I wouldnt regain vision) but lots of people dont understand that an avisual dog can enjoy things just like other dogs with some bumping into things. Not being able to see doesnt stop me from enjoying the company of other dogs.
Don't get me wrong, I am never a winner at the game of chase but I am one heck of a wrestler and I love going to the dog park! I have also learned the joys of toys! Who would have thought that there are entire stores filled with things just for dogs to play with and sleep in!
So, I have been living the good life with my foster mom, 3 dog and 2 cat siblings for a little over a month. It took me a little bit to adapt to life inside of a house, but I am now what they call crate trained. Actually, I love my crate especially the bone I get when I get tucked in at night. I am finally seeing what it is like to be loved, and feel so blessed to be chosen from all of the other dogs that had the same sad experience with me.
Now that the people who sprung me have a handle of my abilities (notice I did not say disabilities), I am looking for a forever home! Below is what my foster mom has to say about life with me:
I have been fostering Clark for a month now and cant believe the progress he has made. I first met him when I was in a building containing hundreds of dogs that had just been removed from horrendous conditions. I was there to help care for all the sick dogs, and did not plan on coming home with one until I met Clark. Clark was standing in his cage, wagging his tail just patiently waiting in the middle of chaos. He was healthy but I couldnt resist his sweet face so I decided to get him out for a little walk. The 1st thing I noticed was he was completely blind. He proceeded to walk around a building filled with a massive amount of barking dogs, occasionally running into something but none of it phased him. He continued to wag his tail, happy to meet his new human and dog friends.
Since our first meeting, Clark has continued to impress me on a daily basis. He lives with 2 adult humans, 2 puppies, 1 adult dog and 2 extremely friendly cats. We go to the dog park a few times a week; he has perfect dog behavior and loves to wrestle with any willing participant. He is wonderful with both adults and children of all ages. He is crate trained, house trained, potty trained and leashed trained. He is a very friendly, social, active dog that hardly bares any scares from his past. Please help Clark find the forever home he deserves.
Br As you can see, she pretty much loves me! As much as Id love to stay with my foster mom, I know that she cant help other dogs if I stay here forever and other dogs need to learn the ropes of home life to get an opportunity to find their forever home. I also know that many people are hesitant about opening their heart and home to an avisual dog (again, I am avoiding the word blind). I learn very fast, and I dont care if I occasionally bump into something. Yeah, people look at my eyes a little funny but they dont understand that I dont see it as a limitation. I love life, and people, and treats, and the park, and dog beds, and bones, just like other dogs and perhaps more, because I know what it is like to not have a loving home. Please contact my foster mom at mathie.7@osu.edu to meet me!
